Just by looking at the price of the All Clad LTD2 hard anodized cookware, you would think that it would be just about perfect. You’d actually expect it to be absolutely perfect, and then some! Because at the price of $683.95, this set is some kind of investment. But right away with only eight pieces, it’s already disappointing.
The pieces include: an eight inch skillet; a ten inch skillet; a 2 quart saucepan, with lid; a 3 quart sauté pan, with lid; and an eight quart stockpot, with lid. These are all great pieces and the eight quart stockpot is certainly encouraging as it will allow you to make just about as much chili, pasta, stock, or sauce that you could want. But the lids are all stainless steel, so you can’t see through them and they don’t have air vents, so your food could easily boil over if it gets too hot in there.
The reason that All Clad seems to deem this set worthy enough to charge that kind of price seems to be that the pots and pans all feature five-ply technology, which incorporates five alternating layers of aluminum and stainless steel, which makes for greater heat distribution and makes the food incredibly responsive to heat, at a much quicker rate. However, most other sets of hard anodized cookware will also give you great heat distribution, without making you pay the whopping price.
This set also claims that it’s the only hard anodized cookware that can be put into a dishwasher but based on our past research; we know that just not to be true. While most sets of hard anodized cookware do require you to hand-wash them, you can find a few sets that can be put into the dishwasher, and that don’t carry the All Clad name or price.
The set is backed by a lifetime guarantee, so maybe All Clad thinks that they are making up for the price by guaranteeing that they will replace the pots at any time. And while the lifetime warranties that we have found have been limited, it still just doesn’t make up for that price. And it’s also safe on all stovetops except for induction. And to be fair on this one, we haven’t found a hard anodized set that is safe on induction stovetops.
The All Clad LTD2 isn’t a bad hard anodized set of cookware by any stretch. And All Clad is a very good and very trustworthy name. But with a price over $600, we just can’t recommend it, especially when it doesn’t seem to have any outstanding features, or a great number of pieces within the set.
